By living at Kealanani, all homeowners will become involved in
some kind of agricultural activity. The developer is focusing on
a tea plantation, a taro farm, and the cultivation of cacao trees
(the source of cocoa beans for chocolate). Tea, taro and cacao will
predominate at Kealanani, but owners will be able to develop and
pursue their own alternative choices. For example, they may choose
to plant other tropical fruit trees such as lychee, papaya or mango,
or engage in ranching as their agricultural activity, including
the boarding and breeding of horses. The developer, along with the
agricultural committee, will be available to assist owners in planning
their individual agricultural ventures.
The agricultural easements at Kealanani establish large, contiguous
areas designed to maintain the rural character and open spaces of
the property and establish significant areas to protect and promote
economically viable agricultural activities. Owners may choose to
grow tea as well as have the opportunity to lease the land to other
growers and/or negotiate potential custom service contracts with
the tea or taro companies to farm agricultural lands in exchange
for payment.
